JANELLE MONÁE - DIRTY COMPUTER

Having listened to half of the nominees now, Janelle Monáe's Dirty Computer' is my favourite so far and it's going to be very difficult to beat.

This album is full of soul, sex and politics all mixed together in a perfect combination. This is exactly the type of album I expect to be nominated at the Grammys. It's incredibly powerful in a multitude of ways and shies away from absolutely nothing. From using Martin Luther King's voice in one track, so having another co-written by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, each song was unexpected. There is a way to make songs political without making them lecture-like, and Monáe has mastered it. It's the kind of music that really makes you think about what you're listening to.

There's not a huge amount more for me to say. I couldn't really find a criticism to make after my first listening. Baring in mind this isn't a genre I really listen to, I'm now definitely going to delve more and see if I can find any artists who are in any way similar to this.

All I can say is: listen to the album! It explains for itself why it's nominated and why I believe it's a frontrunner. Regardless of music taste, I'm sure anyone can appreciate that this album is truly something special. It was a whole listening experience and I am absolutely rooting for Janelle Monáe as the winner of album of the year.
(So far anyway, we've still got a few albums to go!)
